Established by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, Opportunity Zones have been on the minds of local government officials over the last few months. This new economic development tool was created to encourage long-term investments in low-income communities across the country by creating tax incentives for investors to re-invest unrealized capital gains into Opportunity Funds. These funds will then be invested in Opportunity Zones as designated by the chief executive of each U.S. state and territory.

NACCED staff recently met with officials from the Treasury Department, and they are looking for input from NACCED members to identify the needs of local governments as they continue to build out the regulations and guidance for this program. The NACCED Economic Development Committee will be holding a call on Wednesday, March 21 at 3:00 pm ET to discuss some of the ideas and comments NACCED could present to the Department. This will be the first of a regularly scheduled Economic Development Committee call, occurring on the third Wednesday of each month.

Please join us for this call and have an impact on how Opportunity Zones will affect local governments!
